The Secretary General of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Alhaji Mohammed Maigidansanma has arrived in Madrid, Spain, for the Pre-Olympics Championship.
Ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics in France, Alhaji Maigidansanma today, July 4, 2024, arrived at the Adolphus Suarez Barajas International Airport in Madrid, Spain for the Pre-Olympic championship.
The Spanish Grand Prix is a wrestling international event scheduled for Madrid from 5-8 July, 2024. Some of the events include Greco-Roman, Freestyle Women and freestyle Men respectively.
According to the Secretary General, the delegation is expected to join other Team Nigeria contingents in Saabrucken, Germany for the training tours before leaving for Paris, later in the month.
Six athletes will fly the nation’s flag at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. The team comprises five female wrestlers, one male freestyle wrestler and three coaches.
The wrestlers are: Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborodudu (68kg), reigning African champion Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), and Military world champion Hannah Reuben (76kg).
Also, reigning African champions and debutants, Esther Kolawole (62kg) and Ogunsanya Christinah (53kg) while Ashton Mutuwa completes the list in the (125kg) men’s freestyle wrestling.
Victor Kodei tops the list of the Coaches, which also include Purity Akuh and Happiness Burutu.
The President Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali had earlier pledged that the athletes won’t be going to Paris to participate but to compete for medals.
