In a touching gesture of solidarity, the 2012 graduates of the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education at the University of Ilorin have donated ₦1 million to the wife of the late Coach Musa Ismail, who died in a tragic building collapse in Ilorin on Easter Monday, April 21.

The late Musa Ismail was a devoted Taekwondo coach and a respected figure in the local sports community; he passed away following the collapse of a badminton hall, a tragedy that shook the sports community.

The donation was initiated by Olalekan Omoshowon, former President of the department’s student association, who rallied his former classmates to support the grieving family.

The alumni responded swiftly, contributing to raise the sum as a demonstration of gratitude and support.

Omoshowon said: “Musa Ismail was more than a coach, he was a brother, a guide, and a confidant to many of us.

“We felt it was important to stand with his family during this painful time and show appreciation for all he gave to our lives and careers.”

The former HKE/HED President said the funds are meant to enable the wife to set up a business during these challenging times and not to be a burden to others.

He said: “The economy has not been friendly and we know what is going on in the country. We want you to use the funds to set up a business that will help you cater for yourself and your child in the absence of your husband.

The gesture has been widely praised across the university and sports communities, highlighting the strong bonds built through sport and education.
