*Kwara-based photojournalist achieves lifelong dream of covering football’s biggest tournament
For many sports journalists and photographers across the world, covering the FIFA World Cup represents the pinnacle of professional achievement.
For Kwara State-based photojournalist, Abdul Momoh, that dream has become a reality as he has successfully secured accreditation to cover the 2026 FIFA World Cup being jointly hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
Momoh arrived in Canada three days ago and immediately began the necessary accreditation processes required for media personnel covering the prestigious tournament.
Following the completion of all formalities, he was officially cleared to operate as an accredited photojournalist throughout the championship.
The accreditation exercise brought additional rewards for the seasoned sports photographer, as global camera manufacturing giant Nikon selected him for special equipment support and endorsement.
The arrangement provides him with state-of-the-art Nikon cameras, lenses, accessories, and technical support, alongside connectivity facilities that will enable him to transmit images and reports seamlessly from various match venues during the tournament.
As part of the partnership programme, Momoh is scheduled to participate in a specialized seminar and practical workshop on the effective use of Nikon’s latest photography equipment before commencing his World Cup assignment.
The training is designed to equip selected photographers with advanced techniques required to capture the speed, emotions, drama, and defining moments of football’s biggest spectacle.
His first major assignment at the Mundial will be the highly anticipated clash involving Germany and their opening-round opponents, a fixture expected to attract global attention and provide the perfect platform for the Nigerian photographer to showcase his expertise on the world stage.
For Abdul Momoh, however, the World Cup assignment is far more than a professional engagement. It represents the fulfillment of a dream nurtured over several years through dedication, perseverance, and relentless hard work.
