The 9th Western Zonal edition of Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) Ladies Golf Championship, with the theme, ‘Queen of the Greens’ has been scheduled to tee-off on Thursday August 15th, 2024, at the Ilorin Golf Club.
The three-day event will have over 70 Ladies from Golf Clubs all over Nigeria participating, with lots of side attractions which includes promotion of cultural heritage, visit to Children Reception Centre, with Men also playing as Guests on Saturday.
The 54 holes game has been sanctioned by the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Briefing newsmen at a Press Conference today, Monday August 12th, 2024, the Zonal Vice President of LGAN, Mrs. Evelyn Balogun, who is also the Anchor, Western Zone of the body, said that over 50 Caddies took part in a tournament today, as part of the build-up to the event.
She said that the Championship is fully sponsored by the Kwara State Government.
Analysing the outlines for the event, Mrs. Balogun said that on Tuesday, the Super Veterans (Men over 75 years of age) will take to the Course, while on Wednesday, there will be Ceremonial tee-off of the competition, hoisting of the flag, and a Cocktail in the evening, ahead of the hostilities.
The event on Wednesday will also include a visit to the Children Reception Centre (Motherless Babies Home). The day’s events will be Chaired by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Magaji, as the Special Guest.
Others also expected at the Ceremonial tee-off and hosting of flag are the First Lady of the State, Ambassador (Dr) Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, who is the Grand Patron, General Alabi Isama and the First Lady Captain of Ilorin Golf Club, Hon. Mrs. Sikirat Anako.
The Championship proper tees-off on Thursday August 15th, 2024, with Ladies with Handicap 29 to 36 taking to the Course, and Handical 0 to 28 playing on Thursday and Friday. The best 45 of the whole will play on the last day, Saturday August 17th, 2024.
Mrs Balogun averred that the outlines will be judiciously followed, with winners getting trophies for their efforts, at the end of the Championship.
In his opening address, the Captain of the Club, Jide Allen praised the Organisers of the event, even as he equally thanked the State Government and the First Lady, Ambassador (Dr) Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq and others, for supporting the Championship.
