Croatian Borna Coric, 23, has revealed that world No. 4 Roger Federer is his favorite opponent to play against. Coric, ranked at No. 33 in the world, has played against 38-year-old Federer six times over the course of his career.
The Croatian has had some success against Federer, having claimed two wins over the record 20-time Grand Slam champion. In 2018, Coric earned back-to-back wins over Federer as he beat the Swiss in the Halle final and Shanghai Masters semifinal, respectively.
The win in Halle was especially big as Federer is a record 10-time champion at the German grass court event. “Roger Federer is the opponent I like playing most against — it’s always an unbelievable atmosphere against him,” Coric said on the Podcast Incubator.
Coric was asked to select the player from the Big Three he respects the most but he wouldn’t do it. The Big Three — which consists of Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal — have been dominating the Grand Slam stage for the past decade and a half.
World No. 1 Djokovic is a 17-time Grand Slam champion, while second-ranked Nadal has 19 Majors in his collection. “It wouldn’t be fair for me pick anyone from the Big Three. I respect them all. Everything what they have done for the sport in general — from the promotion to their success — 20 Grand Slams, 16 Grand Slams, 19 Grand Slams — i have won two tournaments and there is someone with 19 Grand Slams so it’s tough to pick any player from the group and specifically mention him,” Coric said.
