NPFL 2025/26: Kwara United to host Ikorodu City in seasons opener

Kwara United FC will kick off their 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign at home against Ikorodu City FC of Lagos state.

This was confirmed following the official Matchday 1 draw conducted today, Monday July 28, 2025, in Abuja.

The new season is scheduled to commence on August 22, 2025, featuring several thrilling opening day fixtures across the country, which are :

Kwara United will be aiming to start the season on a positive note in front of their home supporters at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Kwara United finished 14th in the league standings last season. The Ilorin-based side made headlines by clinching the President Federation Cup title, a historic achievement that secured them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking ahead of the opening game, the Club Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, through the General Manager Mallam Bashir Badawiy, expressed the club’s readiness for the new season.

Titiloye is in Abuja to join other club Chairmen and key stakeholders of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and official draws, signalling the commencement of the 2025/26 NPFL season.

The gathering of football administrators and club representatives discussed critical deliberations aimed at ensuring the smooth kick-off of the new league season.

He assured fans that the team is focused on improving on last season’s performance, with renewed determination and strategic preparations already underway.

“We are optimistic about this new season. The technical crew and players are working hard, and we believe we can build on the momentum from last season to achieve even greater success,” Badawiy stated.

Determined to build on that success, Kumbi and his team are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for the upcoming season. The club is focused on strengthening the squad and fine-tuning strategies as they aim for an improved performance both on the domestic and continental fronts.

The Harmony Boys will be looking to make an early statement of intent as they chase glory in the highly competitive NPFL.
