In a time when social divisions and youth restiveness seem to dominate conversations, one young woman in Ilorin is quietly leading a movement to rebuild unity and purpose through the power of sports and community engagement.
She is Engineer Bisola Khabirat, the visionary founder of KK Events and Entertainment, and the brain behind the fast-growing Ilorin Games Fiesta, a grassroots sports and recreation platform that is transforming how young people in Kwara State connect, compete, and collaborate.
What began as a modest community sporting event has now blossomed into a unifying fiesta that draws hundreds of participants from schools, neighborhoods, and youth groups across the city.
The event features activities such as football, table tennis, athletics, chess, scrabble, snooker, monopoly, ludo, traditional games and others, all aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, talent discovery, and youth empowerment.
“The Ilorin Games Fiesta was born out of my desire to use sports as a tool to unite and inspire our youths,” Engr. Khabirat explained.
“When young people play together, they build friendship, discipline, and mutual respect. These are values our communities desperately need.”
The impact has been striking. Beyond the medals and trophies, the fiesta has become a social melting pot, bringing together youths from different backgrounds, religious beliefs, and social classes under one atmosphere of fair play and shared excitement.
It has also served as a platform for discovering budding talents who have gone on to represent their schools and clubs in higher competitions.
For Engr. Khabirat, who combines her background in engineering with her passion for social impact, the project is more than just a sporting event, It is a mission to help young people find direction and purpose.
“We cannot talk about community development without involving the youths,” she said.
“Sports have the power to shape character, instill discipline, and reduce crime. That’s why we created the Ilorin Games Fiesta, to give our youths something positive to look forward to.”
Each edition of the Fiesta also includes mentorship sessions, motivational talks, and leadership workshops, where professionals and role models engage participants on topics such as entrepreneurship, education, and self-development.
Bisola’s vision is a reminder that we don’t have to wait for government before making a difference. She is inspiring a generation to believe that unity and progress start from within our communities.
Looking ahead, KK Events and Entertainment plans to expand the Ilorin Games Fiesta to other parts of the state, in partnership with local councils, schools, and sponsors. The long-term goal, according to Engr. Khabirat, is to make it a statewide youth sports and development programme.
“Our dream is to see Ilorin Games Fiesta become a platform that keeps producing champions, not just in sports, but in character and leadership,” she said confidently.

With the growing success of the initiative, KK Events is already exploring partnerships with government agencies, corporate sponsors, and development organizations to expand the scope of the Games Fiesta beyond Ilorin, with the goal of replicating the model across Kwara and beyond.
The third edition of the Games has been scheduled to come up on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Starwood O2 Arena, Ajase Ipo Road, adjacent Ga’a Akanbi Junction, Ilorin. The event will kick off with a red carpet session at 1:00 pm., while the main event begins from 2:00 pm.
Plans are also on, to increase the numbers of games that will feature in the latest edition, even as the Convener, also known as KabiKushi, disclosed that efforts are ongoing to attract more partners to ensure a hitch-free and memorable event.
The event, which will witness a mix of indoor, outdoor, jungle, and recreational games will have each interested participant paying ₦3,000 access fee, which guarantees entry to all games, while a table of four for friends and associates will be available for ₦50,000.
“We are doing this year’s edition differently. We”ll accommodate games that have been featured in the previous editions and introduce AI-digital games. We have already received gaming console from Japan to make this possible” she said
Kabira assured potential participants of adequate security, noting that appropriate authorities have been notified. She also hinted that mouthwatering prizes await winners across various categories.
