Kwara expresses readiness to host National U-18/21 Handball Championship in March

Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed the readiness of the state to host the National U-18/21 Championship.

Governor AbdulRazaq revealed this when he inspected the renovation of handball court in Ilorin, Kwara state on Tuesday.

Governor AbdulRazaq said the renovation of the handball court will be ready before the xhampionship, in order for the state players to train.

He said the state will present a formidable team during the championship and show why they are champions of the National Division One League, and 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League.

“For the handball, we are going to hold a national championship in March and we are trying to prepare for that. 

We want to be ready for the event because our girls are the champions of the U-21 Championship and Women’s Champion of the Prudent Energy Handball League too”, the Governor concluded.

President of Handball Federation of Nigeria, Sam Ocheho, who was elated, hailed the Governor for his exceptional contribution to the development of sports in Kwara state.

Ocheho revealed the tournament will expose young handball players to competitive game adding that Kwara is a force to reckon with in terms of handball.

“I want to thank His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his willingness to host the National U-18/21 Handball Championship. This will be the first tournament the federation is going to host in 2021 and it will go a long way in putting the state on the handball map in the world.

“The Governor has shown his love for the game of handball. He was present at the 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League held in Abuja to support the Kwara Adorable Angels and the handball family. 

I am optimistic that state will return to it’s rightful place in the sports world” Ocheho said

He reminded the Governor that Kwara state’s U-15 girls have a slot to represent the country at an invitational tournament in Sweden while also reiterating that Adorable Angels who are league Champion of the Women Category of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League would fly the Nation’s flag at the African Club Winners championship which will hold in Algiers in May.

“I want to remind His Excellency that Kwara State won the U-15 Championship and the federation gave them a slot to represent the country at International Championship in Sweden. 

The tournament will afford the young girls to develop more interest in the game of handball if they finally make the trip”, he said.

Kwara Adorable Angels has a slot to represent Nigeria at the African Club Winners championship in Algiers in May. This is a major boost to the state in terms of handball in the world” Ocheho said.

The National U-18/21 Handball Championship is scheduled to hold in March 2021.
