Helbank Volleyball tourney: AA Super Spikers, Stormers Spiker win first games

This year’s edition of the Helbank Shipping Company Limited sponsored Inter-club Volleyball Championship commenced today, with AA Supper Stars of Offa beating Golden Spikers of Oro two straight sets (25-9, 25-19) in the opening game decided at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Sports Commission.

Stormers of Illoffa also defeated Harmony Veterans two straight sets (25-22, 25-18) in the second match, all in the male category.

Nine male and six female clubs are participating in the competition, which is the fourth, and is expected to end on Friday September 17th, 2021, at the same venue.

In the draws conducted earlier today, Volley Spikers of Isin are pitched in Group A alongside Golden Spikers of Oro, Harmony Spikers of Ilorin,  University of Ilorin  Volleyball team and AA Super Stars of Offa.

In Group B are Harmony Veterans, of Ilorin,  Offa Volleyball Club of Offa, Stormers Spiker of Illoffa and Olalomi Royal Spiker of Offa.

In the female category, NYSC of Ilorin were drawn in Group A with Oloru Super Angels of Oloru and Olalomi Volleyball Club of Offa. Group B has University of Ilorin Volleyball Club, Tianah Spikers of Ilorin and Volley Vipers of Isin 

Coach Bola Yusuf, who is the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr Aigbe Felix, Coach Yemi Oyeleye, Dehinde Are, who is the Chief Referee, the Chief Coach, Wale Badamosi, and the Secretary, Kafilat Aliyu were all present at the draw event. 

The annual championship is organised to develop the game and its standard in the state, towards producing more potential future stars, and to further complement government’s efforts at promoting sporting activities.

There will be trophy for the winners, prizes for the Most Valuable Player, Best Spiker, Best Setter, as well as cash rewards for the best three teams in each category, at the end of the competition.
