Helbank Volleyball tourney: Offa honours Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq with a team

Offa Volleyball Club has named one of it’s clubs participating in the 4th Helbank Volleyball competition after Kwara Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in appreciation of his contributions to the club.

Briefing sportsbash.com.ng at the venue of the competition, Coach Sulaiman Olayinka Ajeigbe said that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave Offa Volleyball Club an unexpected support during their campaign in the first leg of the Volleyball Premier League.

“We got an unexpected support from the Governor, which served as a morale booster during our campaign in the Premier League, and we have decided to name our team as AA Super Stars for this competition”, he said.

“It was the first time a team from the state played in the Premier League, and it was an interesting experience. We ended in the 7th position, and we hope to build on that feat in the return leg in Ibadan”

He said that their participation in the Helbank Volleyball competition is also part of the preparation for the return leg, adding that they are fully prepared to defend the title. Offa Volleyball Club has won all editions of the competition since it’s introduction.

“We are here to sustain our status in the male category of the competition, and this time around, we have the capacity to win the titles in both the male and female categories, even though we would be missing the services of two of our female players, Aishat Abdulraheem and Alia Usman, who will be part of Nigeria team to U-18 competition in Mexico.

While analysing his teams, Coach Ajeigbe said that he believes in local contents, as all his players are indigenes of the state.

“We believe in local contents. All our players are indigenes of Kwara state, and that was the target in our grassroots development programme.

“We scout our players through encouragements, which includes buying them canvasses and jerseys, and even paying the school fees of some of them who cannot afford it, this is because they also need to take their education very serious.

Coach Ajeigbe however, appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to assist his club in renovating the Offa Grammar School Volleyball Court, which, according to him, needs urgent attention.

“We train at Offa Grammar School Volleyball Court, and we need the government to assist us to renovate the court. It has gone bad.

He said that the club now has a gym, which was conceived to assist their trainings. He added that the gym, when in use, will also be opened to outsiders.

Also among the major achievements of the club was that, some of the players will soon be travelling abroad, for professional contracts.
