Tolulope Makanjuola, has described the appointment of her mother, Mrs Monisola Makanjuola into the board of the newly created Kwara State Sports Commission, as a reward for merit.
Tolulope, who is the eldest daughter of Mrs Makanjuola, in a statement on Friday, thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on behalf of the family for finding their mother worthy of the position.
She said the appointment is a round peg in round hole, considering her mother’s huge investment and participation in sports.
The Makanjuola’s heir explained that the Governor’s pattern of making appointments is one of the finest in Nigeria today and urged leaders across board in the country to emulate the Kwara Governor.
Makanjuola described her mother as a fine athlete during her active days in Softball and Baseball, as well as Handball, saying her investment in sports has also finally paid off.
“My mum is a formidable woman. One that knows what true perseverance is. A woman who will do great things with this new appointment. I’m looking forward to all the great news coming her way” Makanjuola said.
It would be recalled that Mrs Monisola Makanjuola was among a 10-man Kwara Sports Commission’s board announced by Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq on Monday in Ilorin.
Mrs Makanjuola is the first female softball coach in Nigeria and she is the 3rd vice President of Nigeria baseball and softball association, (NBSA) and Kwara state vice chairman for association of women in sports (NAWIS).
She took part in First Nigeria U-12 handball championship, Ilorin, in 1981 and 1982 in U-15 handball championship, Minna, Niger state.
Mrs Makanjuola finished in 2nd place, at Baseball and Softball National open championship, Ilorin, in 1991 and a first place finish in 1994 at the National baseball and softball championship, Warri, Delta state.
She participated in 1993 Africa baseball and softball championship, Harare, Zimbabwe and also in 1995 at the All African games, captain Harare, Zimbabwe.
Makanjuola was the first female Nigerian softball coach to be selected for exchange programs with Bridgewater State College Massachusetts, USA between 1997 and 1999.
