Kwara United clears air on Akanni, says club operates open-door policy

The Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye, has reiterated the club’s commitment to transparency, accountability and an open-door management policy, assuring supporters and stakeholders that the management remains accessible and willing to provide clarification on issues concerning the club.

Titiloye, who was reacting to matters raised on Akanni’s whereabout by stakeholders in a statement said the management follows discussions within the club’s supporters’ group with “all the attendant seriousness required,” while urging members seeking clarification on specific matters to direct their questions to the club’s media team.

He described Kwara United as one of the most open and transparent clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), stressing that the club has nothing to hide regarding its operations.

The Chairman also explained that player contracts and registration involve the relevant football authorities, with copies of players’ contracts kept by the NPFL, the club, the player and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“All contracts of players always have four copies, NPFL, the club, the player and the NFF. No club can play the league without these documents, amongst other documents,” he stated.

Addressing the situation involving Akanni Akeem, Titiloye clarified that the player joined Kwara United on loan, with a specific provision in the agreement concerning a possible opportunity for the player to move abroad.

“Akanni Akeem was loaned to Kwara United, and his agents specifically noted that if an opportunity arises for him to move abroad, Kwara United must release him,” he explained.

Titiloye also dismissed suggestions that the authority or influence of members of staff at the club had been restricted, insisting that the management continues to provide an enabling environment for its officials to carry out their responsibilities.

“Let it also be noted that no staff of Kwara United’s wings have been clipped,” he said.

The Kwara United Chairman further emphasized that the club operates an open-door policy, noting that supporters and stakeholders have regular opportunities to engage the management.

“Management runs an open-door policy, unless you do not approach us. We are visible at trainings, office and stadium vicinity, and lovers of the club come to us to clarify issues on a daily basis,” Titiloye said.

He maintained that the club operates within the provisions of the law and exercises due diligence in managing funds provided by the Kwara State Government and its sponsors.

“We operate under the law, guide judiciously funds released by KWSG and sponsorship,” he stated.

Titiloye also highlighted the relationship between Kwara United and the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), saying the relationship contributed to the increase in gate fees at the stadium, which he said was subsequently made available to the club’s sponsor, Chowdeck, to operate.

“We relate with KWIRS very well and our relationship brought about the increased gate fees which was now given to our sponsors, Chowdeck, to operate,” he explained.

The club Chairman assured supporters that the management remains closely connected to the team and its activities, stressing that officials are regularly present at training sessions, the club’s office and the stadium.

“We are not strangers in the stadium, so feel free to engage me, the GM, or TA anytime,” Titiloye said.

He urged supporters and other stakeholders with concerns about the club to approach the appropriate officials for clarification, rather than rely on assumptions or unverified information.
