Kwara Utd, ABS FC clash in State Federation Cup final Saturday, as NPFL re-arranges Matchday 28 fixtures

Kwara State Federation Cup final has been scheduled to hold on Saturday March 30, 2024, at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Defending champions, Kwara United Football Club will square up against Abubakar Bukola Saraki (Ilorin) Football Club in the male final.

Only Kwara Ladies United Football Club registered for the female competition.

Even though the two finalists in the male category have qualified for the national finals, the final on Saturday will determine which of the two teams comes first, in the case of seeding ahead of the national finals.

The final will rekindle the rivalry between Kwara United FC and ABS FC, as stakeholders will be entertained by the gladiators.

In a letter by the FA, dated March 25, 2024, and signed by the Secretary, Kashim Agaka, the match will commence by 4.00pm.

“I have been directed by the Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association to notify you of the Kwara State Federation Cup final”, the letter stated.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has earlier warned Football Associations in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT to play their Federation Cup final matches on either 30th March or 31st March, or risk a penalty of N1million.

This year’s Federation Cup competition in the States began on Friday, 1st March 2024.

Deputy Governor of the State, Mr Kayode Alabi is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the final. Others expected at the final are Rt. Hon Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Danladi, Hon Hajia Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu, who is the Chairman House Committee on Youth, Sports & Information and Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, Hon Commissioner for Youth Development.

Also expected at the final are the Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, Kwara Pillar of Sports, Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson, all past Kwara FA Chairmen, Board members, Kwara FA, Congress members, Kwara FA, past Secretaries, Kwara FA, Administrator, Kwara Football Academy, Mallam Ibrahim Bako, Chairperson, Kwara State Football Referee Council and distinguished football stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Matchday 28 fixtures of the ongoing 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has been re-arranged owing to the States finals of this year’s Federation Cup competition.

In a letter to the effect, dated March 27th, 2024, and signed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi, and captioned ‘Re-arrangement of Matchday 28 fixtures’, all Matchday 28 fixtures will now hold on Wednesday April 3, 2024.

“As you are aware that the 2024 Federation Cup State finals is scheduled for Match 30 and 31, kindly be informed that the Matchday 28 games earlier slated for April 2, 2024 has been re-arranged for Wednesday April 3, 2024. due to logistics reason involving NPFL teams.
