Manchester United have confirmed that Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling will both see out the current season with their loan clubs in Italy.

Smalling has spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Roma, while Sanchez completed a temporary move to Inter Milan in the last summer transfer window.

And although both loan deals were initially due to finish on June 30th (Tuesday), the rescheduled Serie A season – moved because of the coronavirus pandemic – will now stretch into August.

United have confirmed they will allow both players to stay with their clubs and their futures will be assessed when they return to Old Trafford at the end of the first week in August.

MEN Sport understand that both men will be surplus to requirements and could head back out on loan, or leave United on permanent deals, with Roma keen to keep centre-back Smalliing.

FIFA and UEFA have indicated that the transfer window will last until October because of the various postponements to leagues around Europe.
