The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Alhaji Lanre Issa-Onílù has joined other well-meaning Kwarans, both at home and abroad, supporting the state’s darling team to go all the way in Saturday’s President Federation Cup final.

Speaking with Sportspro crew on phone, the former Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that Kwara has come a long way in football development and promotion, and deserves something greater.

“Kwara State, created in 1967, was one of the few states that broke into early football development consciousness, and has equally produced wonderful players and coaches.

“Since 1945, which is by calculation, is now 80 years ago, Kwara United and indeed, any team from the state hasn’t won the trophy. It’s on record that Alyuf Salam Rocks, a privately owned club reaching the final in 1976, but lost by Rangers International of Enugu by 2-0.

Alhaji Onilu commended and praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support for sports development, according to him, as reflected in his achievements, including Kwara United’s qualification for the Federation Cup final.

He equally praised Kwara State Sports Commission, Kwara United management, playing and non-playing staff, Supporters and Fans of the club, for tbeir sacrifice and support for sports development, and for the team.

The Federation Cup is the main football single-elimination tournament in Nigeria contested by 74 teams, representing the 36 states and the FCT of Nigeria. It is the Nigerian domestic Cup competition created in 1945.

Kwara United will tavcke Abakaliki FC in the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, on Saturday, beginning from 4.00pm
