The Chairman of Kwara State Table Tennis Association and Board member of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Mr Shola Owolabi will celebrate his birthday tomorrow, Thursday December 24th, with exhibition games.
The annual birthday party, with goes with an Open Table Tennis competition is now in the 8th edition, with a new concept introduced this year.
The ocassion will also witness the launching of three new Olympic table tennis boards worth N2.5 million, which he donated to the Kwara State Table Tennis Association.
Briefing newsmen yesterday at the Table Tennis Hall of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, the Vice Chairman of the association, Barrister Yakubu Orisankoko commended Mr Owolabi for complementing the state government in developing the sport.
He said that Mr Owolabi has sponsored Kwara state table tennis teams to several national competitions, and also sponsored Tobi Falana to Italy for a professional contract.
He said that he is also contributing to their education by paying their school fees, and also supporting the Head Coach, Kehinde Aiyelabegan in his education.
Among his numerous contributions of Mr Owolabi, who is also a member of Para-table tennis committee at the NTTF to the game was the renovation of Table Tennis Hall, to enhance training.
The launching, which is expected to come up by 12 noon, will be graced by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Joana Nnazua Kolo, the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Alarape Atanda, other board members and the players.
The exhibition games will hold among the Kwara State Table Tennis team, both able and Para-table tennis players.
Mr Owolabi is the Chief Executive Officer of Shollamps Oil, Ilorin.
