*As CP receives Kwara SWAN over assaulted members
Kwara State Commissioners of Police, Victor Olaiya said the Nigerian Police Force has produced athletes who have brought glory to the nation.
CP Victor Olaiya stated this when the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State Chapter visited the Police Headquarters in Ilorin on Monday.
Police Machine FC defeated Musty FC 1-0 to lift the Emir’s Football Cup competition on Saturday.
Olaiya said sports is a unifying factor which has brought peace, progress and stability to the country.
He said, “We feel very proud and elated; it’s a thing of joy. Sports is a unifying factor and I am a sports man, you know what it means to bring home the Cup. We are happy; it makes us very proud.
“The Nigeria Police Force has some of the finest sportsmen and women like Chiroma Ajunwa, Julius Aghahowa amongst others; the Emir’s Cup trophy is a testimony to that”.
CP Olaiya told Kwara SWAN to expect more police participation in sports during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in the state.
He said, “You should expect that this is the beginning of good things to come as far as sports is concerned in the Nigerian Police Force (Kwara State Command).
“We will do our best to encourage sports, create an enabling environment, and equipment for the athletes to train. I can assure that we will produce athletes who will compete in International Championships and bring back laurels”.
Commenting on the assaults of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter by some members of the Police Machine, Olaiya said, “We have commenced investigation immediately and I want to assure you that the identified culprits will be brought to book.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail praised Commissioner of Police CP Olaiya for his proficiency in handling the assault on members of SWAN, noting that his intervention will lead to amicable resolution.
He said Kwara SWAN is ready to partner with the Nigeria Police Force (Kwara State Command) in promoting their sporting activities.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Vice President, North Central National SWAN, Olayinka Owolewa said the safety of SWAN members is of utmost importance to the National body.
Owolewa hailed CP Victor Olaiya for his enforcement of discipline amongst members of the Nigerian Police Force.
Present at the visitation were members of Kwara SWAN Executives and top ranked Police officers in the State.
