Jaiyeola, Malomo win 2nd Kwara Inter-Schools Darts tournament

Jaiyeola Kehinde of Oro Grammar School, Oro and Joshua Malomo of Ansarul Islam Grammar School, Ijomu-Oro have emerged winners of the female and male categories of the 2nd Kwara State Inter-Schools Darts competition respectively. 

The tournament, which was competed by 52 students, both male and female from seven secondary schools in Kwara South was concluded at Oro Grammar School, Oro, on Saturday November 11th, 2023.

The first edition of the grassroots competition held in Ilorin in June 2022, and is expected to move to Kwara North after the second edition in Oro, ahead of the State and Zonal competitions. Its being sponsored by Mrs AbdulKareem Rashidat, the Zonal representative of the North Central on the Board of Darts Federation of Nigeria (DFN).

In the Female 501 competition, Jaiyeola Kehinde defeated Solomon Dorcas of Jamat Nasir Islam Grammar School, Oke-Ola Oro 2-1 to win gold, while Esan Pelumi and Saka Saidat, both of Jamat Nasir Islam Grammar School, Oke-Ola Oro won joint third.

Joshua Malomo defeated Moses John of DAB-COHS, Iddo-Oro two straight sets in the Male 501 final, with Abdulgafar Uthman of Ansarul Islam Grammar School, Ijomu-Oro and Adekunle Olanrewaju of Notre Dame Secondary Schools, Oro carting home the joint third prizes.

Oba Oloro of Oro Kingdom, Oba AbdulRafiu Olaniyi Oyelaran I, who was represented by the Eesa of Oro, High Chief Otunola Samuel commended the Organiser and the Sports Officers for supporting sports development. He pledged the support of the Traditional Council to youth and sports development in the community.

The Chairman of Oro Descendants Union (ODU) Prince Olajide Titiloye, who also commended the Organiser, pledged the support of the Union to the cause.

Earlier in her address, the Organiser and Sponsor, Mrs Abdulkareem Rashidat described darts as a game that helps in concentration on particular assignment, relieve stress, improve mathematical skills and also helps the social standing of an individual.

While commending her husband, Mr A. A. Bashar for his support and understanding, she applauded the contributions of the Oloro of Oro, Oba AbdulRafiu Olaniyi Oyelaran I, the Oro Descendants Union, Schools that participated, Principals and Sports Officers, as well as members of the Organising Committee. 

Honoured at the ocassion are Kwara Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, who was represented by ACP Adekunle Tokosi, Chairman of ODU, Prince Olajide Titiloye, CSP Kabir Wada, Hon. Elijah Olanrewaju, who is the Board member of Kwara State Sports Commission, the Principal of Oro Grammar School, Mrs J. A. Adeleke, who was represented by Olu Michael Aremu, and the Principal of Ansarul Islam Grammar School, Ijomu-Oro, Mrs. S. A. Adio.

Also present at the ocassion are are High Chief Matthew Awotunde, the Baale of Ijomu-Oro, High Chief Raphael Babatunde, the Shawo of Oro, High Chief Opeyemi Awogbade, the Ologba of Oro, Principals, Sports Officers and students.
