The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hon. AbdulRasheed Femi Yusuf has congratulated the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on the qualification of Kwara United for the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup competition.
Hon. Yusuf equally commended the State Sports Commission, Chairman, management, playing and non-playing staff, Supporters, Fans and followers of Kwara United, for achieving the feat.
49 years after a team from Kwara State, Alyuf Salam Rocks played in the final of the premier cup soccer competition introduced since 1945, Kwara United yesterday, defeated Rangers International by a lone goal to reach the final, in the semi-final clash decided at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
A solitary 51 minutes goal by Wasiu Alalade separated both teams, and was enough to seal Kwara United’s passage into the grand finale against Abakaliki United, sparking jubilation by Kwara United fans all over the nation.
The victory not only avenged the 1976 heartbreak, but also symbolizes the growth and resilience of Kwara United over the decades. They will now play Abakaliki FC, which also defeated Ikorodu City FC in the second semi-final, in the final.
Hon. Yusuf said that the victory was a manifestation of Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to sports and youth development, as he praised the players for their dedication and sacrifice.
“I will want to commend the players and the coaches, most especially, because it’s not easy starting and ending a journey successfully without challenges, and will also want to charge them to go all the way to complete the job by winning the trophy.
“Hon. Yusuf thanked Kwarans both at home and abroad for supporting government of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who he described as an achiever.
