The Board member of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Hajia Segilola Alaya, has praised the standard displayed by the finalists in this year’s female final of the President Federation Cup in Kwara state.
The final, held at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin saw an excellent display of soccer artistry from the young ladies, yesterday, Sunday February 23, 2025.
Moje Queens of Erin-Ile broke the dominance of Kwara Ladies United Football Club to win the state competition.
Kwara Ladies first won the competition in 2003, and won again in 2021, 2023 and 2024, before loosing to Moje Queens of Erin-Ile in the final of this year’s edition.
The highly determined Queens were down 2-1, but got a stoppage time equaliser from a well taken long range free kick, to drag the final into penalties, which they won by 4-3, to become the new state champions.
Moje Queens of Erin-Ile first won the competition in 2015, repeated the feat in 2019, before doing so again this year, stopping Kwara Ladies United FC in a dramatic way.
Hajia Alaya, who is the Founder and Matron of Abruka Queens FC of Ilorin congratulated both teams, and saluted the courage of Moje Queens of Erin-Ile, even as she charged the two teams to strive to surpass the record already created by Abruka Queens in the National finals.
Abruka Queens, as state champions in 2022, lost to Abia Angels 2-1 in Benin, in the Round of 16, and no Kwara female team before and after then, reached the that stage.
Female FA Cup competition started in Kwara state in 1996, with the now defunct Oladimeji Tigress, owned by Hajia Rasheedat Oladimeji, the wife of the Jagunmolu of Igbomina Land, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Oladimeji dominating for a period of time.
