Notre Dame Girls’ Academy launches football team

It was an historical moment on Saturday when the management of Notre Dame Girls’ Academy (NDGA) Amoyo, Ilorin unveiled the school’s football team.

The team, christened ‘NDGA Angels’ and unveiled by the Catholic Bishop of Ilorin, Most Reverend Paul Olawoore was set up in a bid to give students an avenue to explore the round leather game while they also enjoy holistic education from the school.

In her welcome address, the Principal of the school, Sister Rita Ezekwem says the idea of establishing the team was motivated by the mission statement of the institution which espouses the need to provide opportunity for students to master their skills. 

She expressed the belief that the team will serve as a platform for engendering a sound mind, whilst enhancing students’ discipline and team spirit for achieving a common goal.

“From our mission statement, we commit ourselves to providing such opportunities that will help our students develop their full potentials” the Principal said.

Also speaking at the event, Coach Bolakale Mogaji, the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission commended the school authorities for the standard of their sporting facilities and assured them of the support of the commission in delivering an unequalled achievements.

Mogaji described the idea of the team as a shared-resolve with the Commission, adding that  importance of school sports in discovering talents and nurturing them to stardom can’t be overemphasized.

The new team would subsequently after unveiling engaged Abruka Queens feeders team in a novelty match.

An encounter which saw a great display of soccer artistry to the delight of parents and guests at the playing field of the school  ended 2-1 in favour of Abruka Queens feeders team.

The event also witnessed the confirmation of Deaconess Bukola Sanya Olatunde as the Patroness of the newly formed team.

In her message at the occasion, read by Coach Adeoye Ademola of Debby FC, Deaconess Olatunde appreciated the school’s management for the opportunity, pledging to support the team both financially and materially.

Notable football stakeholders at the ceremony included the Chairman, Kwara State Football Association, who was represented by Hajia Segilola Alaya. She also doubles as the Chairperson of Kwara State Female Football Development Committee of the FA, as well as the Proprietress of Abruka Queens.

Among many other guests were the Administrator of Kwara Football Academy (KFA), Mallam Bako Ibrahim; Chairman, Kwara State Branch of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Jimoh Bashir; CEO and Publisher of Sportspro News, Bayour Issah, some members of the Kwara State Sports Commission and  host of others.
