Kwara State Governor and the Chairman of Governors’ Forum in Nigeria, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is expected to grace the final of the 1st edition of Sar’dauna of Ilorin football competition tomorrow, Wednesday February 5th, 2025.

The final match between Baruten Local Government team and their Asa counterparts will hold at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin, beginning from 3.00pm.

The competition is being organised by Kwara State Sports Commission, in conjunction with Ultimate Sports Consult Limited, to celebrate the 65th birthday of the Governor.

The competition kicked off on Friday January 31, 2025, and witnessed the convergence of U16 youths from all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state to compete not only for honours, but to strengthen unity and encourage togetherness across the state.

Asa defeated Oyun 2-1 to qualify for the final, while Offa lost the second semi-final to Baruten 5-4 on penalties, after playing out a one-all draw at regulation time. The two neighbouring communities, Oyun and Offa will compete for the third place prize ahead of the final match, also tomorrow.

Asa had earlier beaten favourites, Ilorin West team 3-1 on penalties in the first quarter-final, while Baruten defeated Northern rivals, Kaiama 4-3 on penalties, after playing out a one-all draw at regulation time, also in the quarter-finals.

The final tomorrow will be witnessed by the celebrant, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and top government functionaries and dignitaries.

Also expected to grace the final are the Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Yakubu, other Legislators, the Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, the Kwara FA Chairman, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, Local Government Chairmen and other stakeholders.

The competition, an initiative of Alhaji AbdulRazaq Owolabi Wopa Agbaji of the Ultimate Sports Consult Limited, is being sponsored by the State ALGON.
