Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State chapter has expressed dismay over the security laxity in the surrounding of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Items worth millions of naira have been stolen and vandalized in the last four months at the state’s sports edifice.
A statement jointly signed by the association’s Chairman, Ayodeji Ismail and Assistant Secretary, Sodiq Adebara, said the porous state of security in the stadium made it possible for some burglars to gain access to shops in the complex which one of them is owned by a FIFA Accredited Photojournalist, Abdul Momoh.
The thieves burgled Abdul Momoh shop, destroying some of his properties worth millions of naira and studio light, speed light and standing fan were carted away, statement says.
It described the incident as unfortunate which could jeopardize the commercial activities in the stadium if adequate security is not guaranteed.
The statement also sympathized with other victims whose shops were affected in the unfortunate incident.
The statement therefore, called on the concerned authorities to, as matter of urgency, put all the necessary security measures that could avert future reoccurrence of the ugly incidence in place.
