Women’s Invitational T20i Cricket: Nigeria edge Sierra Leone by 54 runs ahead of Tanzania meeting

Favour Eseigbe’s outstanding performance kept Nigeria’s Female Yellow Greens ahead of their West African neighbour Sierra Leone as Nigeria won her first game by 54 runs.

Favour Eseigbe, Peculiar Agboya, and Esther Sandy batted 44, 33, and 30 runs to give Nigeria a high total score of 137 runs for a loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs (137/2).

The second innings gave the Female Patriots of Sierra Leone an opportunity to fight but they were slowed by Nigerian bowlers. Nigeria recorded early dismissals of their opening batters. However, Celina Bull proved difficult and contributed 23 runs before she was caught by Salomone Sunday after Shola Adekunle’s perfect delivery.

Sierra Leone played a total of 83 runs and lost 8 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Nigeria’s Favour Eseigbe won the Player of the Match award after taking 2 wickets and batting 44 runs for her country.

Nigeria will file out against top-rated Tanzania in the first game of Monday 26 February 2024 by 10:15 am at TBS, Lagos.
