The second edition of the Kwara First Lady six-a-side female football competition is expected to Kick-off on Monday February 5th, 2024, at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, with 10 clubs and schools competing in two categories.
Five clubs and five schools registered to participate in the competition being staged in honour of the First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Professor (Mrs) Olufolake Ajike AbdulRazaq.
In the clubs category are Moje Queens of Erin-Ile, which drew bye after the draws conducted on Wednesday at the FA Secretariat, Winning Stars of Omu-Aran, Abruka Queens, Kwara Ladies and Model FA.
Government Day Secondary School, Odota tops the list of the schools that entered for the competition. Others are Unilorin Secondary School, United Community Secondary School, PSS Balah and Ilorin Grammar School, Ilorin, which drew bye in the schools category.
One match par day will be played in each category, with Government Day Secondary School, Odota taking on Unilorin Secondary School in the first match by 2.00pm on Monday in the schools category, while Winning Stars of Omu-Aran takes on Abruka Queens from 4.00pm, at the same venue, in the clubs category.
The competition is being organised by Hajia Segilola Alaya, who is the Chairperson, Kwara State Football Association Female Football Development Committee, and a Board member of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
Hajia Alaya said that the competition was introduced to appreciate the contributions of the First Lady to the development of girl-child, to create windows of opportunities for the female folks, and develop the round leather game.
She commended Her Excellency, the First Lady, Ambassador Professor (Dr) Mrs Olufolake Ajike AbdulRazaq for encouraging her to embark on the journey which she described as fruitful, towards making the girl-child add value to the society through football.
Hajia Alaya equally commended the Kwara State Football Association, under the leadership of Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, for created the Female Football Development Committee, and appointing her as the Chairperson.
She said that the competition has its seed sown years back, as other efforts at enlarging the coast was the inauguration of the Female Football Interest Group (FFIG), in Kwara state.
While classifying her efforts as complementary to the huge investment of the state government towards the growth of youth and sports, Hajia Alaya added that apart from teaching girls how to play football, she encourages taking them through lessons on ways of life, through counceling, seminars and others, all in the bid to make them useful in the society.
The final of the competition comes up February 10, 2024.
