Kwara United Queens Football Club of Ilorin have intensified their preparations ahead of the Kwara State First Lady Pre-Season Tournament, with 30 players now making the provisional list for the competition.
During a training session held on Wednesday morning, players shortlisted from the recently concluded screening exercise engaged in an intensive workout aimed at boosting their readiness for the tournament.
The session featured a blend of drills, structured passing routines, and shooting exercises designed to enhance match fitness, improve accuracy, and strengthen team cohesion.
The exercise also emphasized discipline, commitment, and tactical awareness among the players.
The preparations are geared towards the highly anticipated 12-team invitational women’s pre-season tournament, which is expected to attract teams from across the country.
Kwara United Queens, a newly established and well-organized state-owned female football team, operates under the leadership of its Chairman, Alhaji AbdulRasak Owolabi Wopa, who has reiterated the club’s commitment to building a competitive side.
The tournament is scheduled to hold from April 9 to April 17, 2026, at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium in Ilorin.
Several invited teams have already arrived in the state, as excitement continues to build ahead of the kickoff.
Meanwhile, Wazbak Football Club of Lagos has arrived in Ilorin ahead of the Kwara State First Lady Pre-Season Championship.
The team touched down in the Kwara State capital today, Wednesday April 8, 2026, and has since settled into their camp at the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
Speaking on the team’s arrival, Head Coach Adeniyi Wasiu Adekola described the tournament as a welcome development for women’s football, commending the organisers for the initiative.
He noted that the competition would serve as a vital platform to fine-tune his side ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship.
“We need this kind of programme to adequately prepare for the forthcoming NWFL Championship,” Adekola stated.
Wazbak FA arrived with a contingent of 24 players and four officials.
Other invited teams are expected to arrive in the state as anticipation continues to build ahead of kickoff.
