KWSG rewards late badminton coach, Bello Oyebanji’s family

The leadership of Kwara State Sports Commission has been commended for its untiring and relentless effort towards improving and taking the sports development to a greater height.

The commendation was made yesterday by the Secretary to the Government of Kwara State, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, while presenting on behalf of the state government, a cheque of two million naira to the wife of former Kwara state badminton coach, late Rafiu Oyebanji Bello in his office.

According to the SSG, the spirit behind the monetary compensation to the family of the late World Para-badminton champion is to boost the morale and the spirit of sports men and women for efficient service delivery in sports, especially in the badminton game in the state.

The SSG, who told the family and officials of the newly-established Kwara State Sports Commission to consider what happened to late Coach Bello was the Will of Allah that when it is time nobody can say no. They prayed Allah to give the family of the late coach and the official of the Sports Commission, Kwara State Badminton Association, Badminton Federation of Nigeria and the World Badminton Federation the fortitude and courage to bear the irreparable loss. 

He further charged them as administrators and coaches of sports to always remember to leave something behind as legacy for future young sports men and women as reference while charging them to live an exemplary life of late Coach Bello.

He said Kwara State Government would continue to reward hard work and dedication to those who have contributed in one way or the other for the development of the state.

Late Coach Rafiu Bello, who was the Kwara State Badminton Coach until his death, was said to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident along Ibadan/Oyo Expressway while returning from Lagos for an official engagement in his bid to travel to Spain for international tournament.

Expressing appreciation to Kwara State Government, the wife of the late Coach, Hajia Halima Suleiman Bello and the Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Alhaji Bolakale Adisa Mogaji sincerely appreciated the Kwara State Government for the wonderful gesture, and prayed for Allah’s guidance and protection for a successful tenure.
