The MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja will today be set agog as 5 Kwara State Sports personalities will receive prestigious awards from the National SWAN for their contributions to the development of Sports in Nigeria.
These five Kwara men who will be crowned with diadems are Legendary Hameed Adio who was a former Commissioner for Sports and Information in Kwara, former General manager at NTA Abuja and the Captain of Nigeria’s Delegation to 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
The 4 others are Kwara United Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, Kwara FA Chairman, Mallam Idris Musa popularly known as Thuraya, the Director of ABS FC, High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka (ACC), and veteran broadcaster, Bayour Issah.
There is no doubt that over the years, these five men have made their State (Kwara) proud by cementing their names in the sands of gold and history.
For the first time in the history of Kwara United, the management under Kumbi Titiloye won the prestigious Federation Cup (FA Cup) when they beat Abakaliki FC in the Final in Lagos.
This record will forever be in the history books of Kwara United and the Nigerian Football.
Idris Musa Thuraya who is the Chairman of Kwara FA has for the past years changing the face of Football in the State of Harmony and his meaningful contribution paved ways for him to be named among the awardees by the National Body of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Apart from starting as a grassroot reporter before becoming an Administrator, High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka has for more than 10 years being steering the affairs of ABS FC – the club that has produced many star footballers from Kwara State and stands as the nexus for local Kwara players to exhibit their talents.
Hameed Adio, the veteran broadcaster and commentator is not new to the Sporting Fraternities in Nigeria considering his meaningful contributions to the development of Sports.
Adio also recently served as the immediate past Chairman of Kwara State Television Authority Board.
Bayour Issah is a legend of broadcasting and a doyen who has for years been training many in the Institution of Sports.
Known as the Dean of the Sports Faculty, Bayour Issah will be recognized for his commitment and hardwork towards reshaping broadcasting in Nigeria.
The Award Day ceremony is expected to start by 1pm at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
