The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, has congratulated the Executive Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on his well-deserved recognition at the SWAN National Diamond Jubilee (SWAN @60) Awards held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
In a congratulatory statement jointly signed by the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Mallam Ismail Ayodeji, and the Assistant Secretary, Sodiq Adebara, the Association described the honour bestowed on the Governor as a reflection of his outstanding commitment to the growth and transformation of sports in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
The statement noted that under Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration, sports infrastructure in the state has received remarkable attention, with renewed focus on youth development, athletes’ welfare, and the revival of facilities to meet modern standards.
Kwara SWAN further applauded the Governor for his consistent support to sports associations, journalists, and athletes, saying his policies have continued to foster inclusivity, empowerment, and excellence within the sporting community.
According to the Association, the national recognition by SWAN underscores the Governor’s visionary leadership, dedication to human capital development, and passion for using sports as a tool for unity and progress.
Kwara SWAN prayed that Almighty Allah continues to strengthen the Governor with wisdom, good health, and divine guidance, enabling him to sustain his impactful leadership and further elevate Kwara’s image in the national sporting arena.
The body equally congratulated distinguished sports personalities from the state who were honoured with prestigious national awards during the SWAN Diamond Jubilee awards.
The Association described the recognition of these illustrious Sports Icons as a reflection of their exceptional contributions to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria and beyond.
Those honoured include Veteran Broadcaster, Bayour Issah; Veteran Journalist and Director of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka; Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Musa (Thuraya) and Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye.
Others are former Olympian, Alhaji Hameed Adio; Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi; and seasoned sports administrator, Mr. Kayode Okunola, all of whom were recognised for their dedication, service, and outstanding impact in their respective fields.
Kwara SWAN noted that the awards were not only a celebration of individual excellence but also a testament to Kwara State’s consistent contribution to sports advancement in Nigeria.
The Association expressed pride in the accomplishments of the awardees, commending the National SWAN leadership for acknowledging their invaluable roles in promoting sports journalism, administration, and athletic excellence.
Kwara SWAN prayed for continued success, sound health, and greater accomplishments for the awardees, while urging them to sustain their efforts toward nurturing the next generation of sports talents and further enhancing the state’s image in national and global sports.
