Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Boy, a popular One-Man Publicity outfit based in Ilorin, Kwara state is dead.
The highly vocal and informed lover of sports, especially football, died early this morning, at the Palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The man started his town-crying-like publicity business by hanging placards, to announced the date and time of the available film shows at the then Film House in Ilorin.
He however, broke into consciousness of Nigerians when he verred into football circle, announcing upcoming fixtures of both local and national matches, with the shout of ‘tomorrow ball, next tomorrow ball, everyday ball’ and announcing the teams involved in the matches.
It was in one of these matches, the final of the State Challenge Cup between Alyuf Salam Rocks and Midland FC in 1976, at the A’ Division playing ground, that he told the then Military Administrator, Col Ibrahim Taiwo, who was also watching the match that Kwara was ripe enough to have a stadium.
According to findings, when on his normal publicity business, he told the former Administrator that with the number of clubs in the state then, coupled with the serious awareness, the state needs a befitting and recognised playing arena of its own.
And that was to be the very foundation of what is now Kwara State Stadium Complex, which was later constructed by another Military Administrator, late George Agbazika Innih.
Late Dan-Boy was said to be from Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara state. He is survived by his children.
