Kabir Balogun, the dynamic Nigerian defender and former player of Kwara United Football Club has sealed his switch to Mbeya Kwanza FC of Tanzania, in East Africa.
Back in Ilorin, Balogun was more than just a defender. He was a symbol of resolve at Kwara United.
Known affectionately by fans for his tenacious tackling, aerial bravery, and calm build-up play from the back, he helped the Harmony Boys weather the toughest moments in the NPFL and was a regular feature in their starting XI.
Kwara United, a club steeped in Nigerian domestic history since its foundation in 1997, has long been a proving ground for talents who thrive in pressure situations, and Balogun was no exception.
But football journeys evolve, and for Kabir, the call of a new challenge in Tanzania’s competitive Championship League, the Ligi Daraja La Kwanza, was too good to pass up.
Mbeya Kwanza, a club rooted deep in the footballing traditions of Mbeya region, has been a rising force in Tanzanian football since its formation in 2012.
Originally founded by workers of the Coca-Cola Company and once known as Coca-Cola Kwanza FC, the club rebranded to Mbeya Kwanza and climbed steadily up the divisions. By 2021, they had earned promotion to the Ligi Kuu Bara, Tanzania’s top flight, a historic milestone for the young outfit.
