Governor’s Cup: Ilorin West picks final ticket, targets trophy

Ilorin West U-15 football team today, Saturday December 23, 2023, qualified for the final of the second edition of Governor’s Cup, which is being competed by teams from all the 16 Local Government Areas.

The team defeated Asa Local Government team 2-1 to qualify for its first final in history, in a match decided at the Kwara Football Academy pitch, after beating Isin 1-0 in the quarter-final.

The team began their campaign from Group B, where they emerged with maximum points.

They will square up against Ilorin East in the final. Ilorin East on its part, defeated Edu 8-7 on penalties, after a goalless draw in the quarter-final, and Offa 4-1 in the semi-finals, to pick the final ticket.

While praising the team for reaching the first final ever, the Chairman of Ilorin West Football Council, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Adebayo Owolabi Wopa Agbaji commended the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman, Alhaji AbdulGafar Omotosho for his support.

Alhaji Wopa, who was the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) of the recently concluded Emir’s Cup soccer competition thanked Alhaji Omotosho for not only supporting the team, but sports development generally in the Local Government Area.

He pledged that the Football Council will put in all efforts to reciprocate his gesture by winning the trophy.

The competition is being sponsored by Senator Sidiq Umar, and Organised by the Kwara State Football Association.
