President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for sponsoring the Chairman of the Kwara Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa (Thuraya), to Morocco for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup play-off fixtures.
Gusau described the Governor’s gesture as “a clear and practical demonstration of strong support for football development in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.”
According to the NFF boss, the decision to send the Kwara FA Chairman to Morocco goes beyond cheering the Super Eagles, noting that it provides valuable exposure to global best practices in football administration, facility management, and match-day operations.
He said the opportunity would broaden the Chairman’s understanding of modern football structures, enhance his leadership capacity, and ultimately contribute to raising the standard of the game across Kwara State.
“Governor AbdulRazaq has once again shown that he is a true friend of Nigerian football,” Gusau stated.
“Sponsoring the Kwara FA Chairman to witness high-level World Cup play-offs is not just support for the Super Eagles; it is an investment in knowledge, experience, and growth. Such exposure will help the FA leadership better understand stadium management, organizational excellence, and new trends in football development.”
Gusau added that AbdulRazaq’s sustained interest in sports, particularly football, continues to place Kwara on the national map, describing him as one of the most sports-friendly governors in the country.
“Also, trusting the FA in the upgrading of the Kwara State Stadium Main-Bowl to CAF and FIFA accepted standards is a clear indication of the understanding of football management on the part of the Governor.
He encouraged other states to emulate the Kwara model, stressing that deliberate investment in sports leadership, capacity building, and international exposure remains essential for sustainable football development.
The NFF President congratulated the Kwara FA Chairman for the opportunity and expressed confidence that the experience gained in Morocco would translate into improved football programmes, enhanced grassroots development, and better collaboration with national football bodies.
He reaffirmed the NFF’s readiness to continue working with all state FAs and governments to move Nigerian football to greater heights.
