The Olukotun of Ikotun, Oba Abdulrazaq Adebayo Abioye (Jp) has charged sportsmen to not only think about winning, but about the long term effect that participation in sports will have in their lives.
Speaking at the final of the football competition staged as part of the activities marking the 20th years on throne of Oba Abioye on Thursday February 20th, 2025, at Ansarul-Islam Primary School, Ikotun, he said that thinking purely about winning breeds desperation.
“You would need to always show your talents at every stage, and also be disciplined and determined in doing so.
He equally charged parents to support their female children to do sports.
Ikotun United defeated Ultimate Football Club of Igbonna 2-0 in the final match, in the competition competed by 12 clubs. Odo-Ode walked over Biola FC to win the third place match.
The other teams are AD Sporting FC, Ikotun, Kolawole FC, Ikotun, Ikotun Golden Boys, Aiyedaade FC, Ikotun, Alaro FC, Aboto, Ojoku FA, Ojoku, Young Boys FC, Offa and Odo-Ode FC of Odo-Ode.
Individual award winners are Saheed Agoro of Ikotun United (Best Goalkeeper), Obafunwabi Israel of Ikotun United (Highest Goal Scorer), with 13 goals, Ahmed Yinusa of Ikotun United (Golden Boot), Coach Olatoke Azeez of Ikotun United (Best Coach), and Razaq Salami of Ultimate FC, Igbonna (Fair Play).
Among those who witnessed the final are Josiah Olatunji, the Senior Sales Manager of Nigeria Breweries Plc, the Chairman of Oyun Local Government Football Council, Mr. Salman Fowomola, his Vice, Mr Ademola Kayesola, who is the Chairman of Kwara YSFON and others.
