And last weekend, on Saturday February 7, 2026 to be exact, in a thrilling climax to the 2026 edition of the memorial competition at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium, Afase FC lifted the coveted trophy amid scenes of jubilation from fans, players and guests alike.
Afase FC’s journey to the final was marked by grit and flair, overcoming several top-flight rivals with disciplined defending and incisive attacking play.
In the final showdown, played under bright sunshine and amidst roaring support, Afase prevailed with a decisive 2-1 victory, securing their name on the Olanrewaju Memorial Cup for the first time in the tournament’s storied history.
As the final whistle sounded, players and supporters erupted in celebration, draping their team colours and chanting. But the day’s significance extended far beyond the pitch.
In attendance were Olanrewaju’s sons and daughters, who had gathered from across Nigeria and abroad to mark the occasion. For them, the tournament was more than a competition. It was a heartfelt reunion and tribute to their father’s love of football and community spirit.

The President of Kwara All Stars, Mallam Hameed Idris (SMO), praised the quality of football and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament.

A member of the Olanrewaju family and key supporter of the event, Najeem Olanrewaju, expressed gratitude to everyone who has kept the memorial alive over the years.

The 2026 final was made even more memorable as the occasion also doubled as a celebration of the 60th birthdays of Taofeek Olanrewaju and Mujidat Olajumoke Olanrewaju, whose presence added colour and emotional depth to the ceremony.
In his reaction, Taofeek Olanrewaju thanked God for life and appreciated the football family for the honour.
“To witness this level of love and unity on my 60th birthday is humbling. Football has always been a tool for togetherness, and today we saw it again. I thank everyone for making this day unforgettable,” he said.
Mujidat Olajumoke Olanrewaju, also expressed joy and gratitude.
