The Kwara State Badminton Association has unveiled its new official kits, in a significant move aimed at strengthening the identity, visibility and professional image of badminton in the state.
The unveiling ceremony, held yesterday, Sunday August 23, 2026, at the Gabriel Babatunde Ladipo Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Ilorin, attracted sports administrators, badminton stakeholders, athletes, officials and other invited guests.
The newly unveiled kits, designed in the Association’s distinctive sporting colours and emblazoned with its official emblem, represent more than a new appearance. They symbolise the Association’s renewed commitment to excellence, discipline, unity, professionalism and pride in representing Kwara State.
The initiative is also expected to enhance the corporate identity of the Association while providing athletes with professionally branded kits that project the image and identity of Kwara badminton whenever they compete at national and international levels.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, commended the leadership of the Badminton Association for the initiative, describing the unveiling as a positive development capable of further enhancing the visibility and professional outlook of the sport.
Mallam Mogaji reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting sporting associations and athletes across the state, particularly through grassroots development, talent identification, capacity building and programmes designed to promote sustainable sporting excellence.
He urged the Association to intensify its talent development efforts, particularly through the discovery and nurturing of young badminton players who can go on to represent Kwara State and Nigeria at major national and international competitions.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairperson of the Kwara State Badminton Association, Hajia Kemi Jimoh, expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, for their continued support and commitment to sports development in the state.
Hajia Jimoh described the unveiling as another important milestone in the Association’s efforts to reposition badminton and create a conducive environment for athletes to develop their talents and achieve sporting excellence.
In his vote of thanks, the Vice Chairperson of the Kwara State Badminton Association, Prof. Abdufatai Olokooba, appreciated the Kwara State Sports Commission for its continued support and partnership with the Association.
Prof. Olokooba noted that the collaboration between the Commission and sporting associations remained critical to the growth of sports in the state, expressing optimism that the unveiling of the new kits would further motivate athletes and strengthen their sense of identity and responsibility when representing Kwara.
The unveiling of the official kits marks another significant step in the ongoing efforts to build a stronger and more professionally structured badminton programme in Kwara State, with renewed emphasis on athlete development, institutional identity and improved representation at national and international competitions.
The event also attracted some prominent veterans of badminton in Kwara, including Chief Niyi Tinuoye, a former Chairman of the association; Hon. Sulaiman Warah; Wahab Ọba; and Yinka Abolarin.
Other individuals who have supported the association and were recognised at the occasion included Mallam Olatunji Mohammed (El-Lado), Mr Haruna Tsado, the Secretary of the Kwara State Sports Commission, members of the Commission’s Board and Mr Moshood “Big Joe”.
The unveiling of the kits represents another step in the association’s efforts to reposition badminton in Kwara, while strengthening the connection between the sport’s rich history, its accomplished veterans and the generation of athletes expected to carry the state’s sporting legacy forward.
With renewed institutional and stakeholder support, the association is expected to continue its drive to discover, nurture and expose more young badminton talents capable of replicating, and even surpassing, the achievements of those who have gone before them.
