Kwara NUJ/Odetundun Inter-Chapel table tennis tourney holds tomorrow

Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Joirnalists (NUJ) organised Table Tennis Championship in honour of Hon. Shola Odetundun will hold tomorrow, Wednesday December 4th, 2024, at the NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin.

The Championship will commence by 10.00am, with the final is scheduled to hold from 4.00pm, at the same venue.

Hon. Shola Odetundun is representing Irepodun Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The Championship will be declared open by the Chairman of NUJ, Mallam Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, who said that the Inter-Chapel table tennis competition was introduced to solidify the relationship among members of various Chapels, and to advance the cause of sports development.

He added that the Championship is being sustained through sponsorship by various personalities, with Hon. Razaq Owolabi, Hon. Seun Oginniyi, both members of the Kwara State House of Assembly and Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson all sponsoring the Championship at one time or the other.

Seven Chapels, which includes Coreespondents’ Chapel, Harmony FM, Ministry of Information and Communications, Radio Kwara, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Ilorin, Kwara TV and The Herald will compete for honours in the Championship, in both Male and Female Singles events.

To compete in the Male event are Lukman Oyedeji (Correspondents’ Chapel), Abdulkabir Sulyman (Information and communications), Sodiq Adebara (Harmony FM), Victor Adetoye (Radio Kwara), Adeniyi Adeyemi (NTA), Jimba Babatunde (Kwara TV) and Adeoti Adebayo Ayobami (The Herald Newspaper).

In the Female category are Bushrah Badmus (Correspondents’ Chapel), Yetunde Bamidele (Information Communications), Itunnu Olaosebikan (Radio Kwara), Bisi Yusuf (NTA) and Nusirat Popoola (Kwara TV).

While Yetunde will enter the competition as the defending champion in the Female category, the Male category is expected to produce a new champion, following the non registration of Jide Allen, who is the defending champion in the Male category, by Radio Kwara.

The sponsor, Hon. Shola Odetundun, Kwara House of Assembly members, the Chief Press Secretary to Kwara Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaiye, General Managers of Media Houses, sports enthusiasts, members of various Chapels in the state are expected to grace the final from 4.00pm tomorrow.

Winners will smile home with medals and cash prizes.
