ABC meets clamour for more competitions for women – Osahon

The Proprietor and Manager of NWFL Premiership side, FC Robo Queens, Emmanuel Osahon has said the upcoming Aisha Buhari Invitational Women’s Football Tournament will be a boost to the age-long clamour to have more quality competitions for the women in the continent, as is the practice in America, Asia and Europe.

“I really appreciate the First Lady for this tournament and what she has been doing for the less privileged in the society, the girl-child, women, orphans, widows through the Future Assured Programme (FAP) of her pet project – the Aisha Buhari Foundation. And for her to deem it fit as a First Lady to host this kind of competition and spread the tentacles across Africa, I commend her for what she is doing not only in Nigeria but Africa as a whole.

“We cannot pretend not to know that women need to have more leverage for empowerment. Big kudos to the First Lady. The Aisha Buhari Cup is beneficial to the growth of the women’s game; we have been clamouring for more tournaments and now they are introducing tournament that is not even CAF-related, it is really big and the fact that it is involving some other African countries, it’s a commendable effort.

On the tournament, Osahon said Nigeria must sweat to be able to earn the bragging rights against formidable adversaries from Cameroun, Ghana and South Africa.

“With the likes of Cameroun, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, you will ask who the giant is. All the four countries are giants so it will be the survival of the fittest. They have players overseas; Nigeria have players overseas, so we must work hard to earn our pride of place at the tournament,” said Osahon.

The Future Assured Programme (FAP) focuses on women and girl-child as well as vulnerable people like widows, orphans and the disabled across the country. The programme involves training for entrepreneurial skills and provision of starter packs, conditional and unconditional cash transfers and provision of business tools.
