The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mallam Yusuf Feruke, describing his death as a rude shock to the sports fraternity and the journalism profession in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Mallam Ismail Ayodeji, and the Assistant Secretary, Sodiq Adebara, the Association noted that the late Yusuf Feruke was a dedicated professional, a humble mentor, and a man of exemplary character whose contributions to sports journalism will be remembered for generations.
According to the statement, the Janazah (funeral prayer) for the late veteran journalist will hold at his hometown, Offa, by 4 pm. today, Wednesday November 5, 2025, where family, friends, and colleagues will gather to bid him a final farewell.
Kwara SWAN described the deceased as a man who lived a life of service to Allah and humanity, known for his calm disposition, humility, and unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics and truth.
“The passing of Mallam Yusuf Feruke is a huge loss not only to the sports media family but also to the entire journalism profession in Nigeria.
He will be fondly remembered for his piety, professionalism, and contributions to the growth of sports reporting,” the statement added.
The Association prayed that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants him Al-Jannat-ul-Firdaus, and gives his family, colleagues, and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He was the former Chairman of The Herald Newspaper Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
