Kwara SWAN plans Award Night, confirms Oladimeji as new Pillar of Sports

The Kwara chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has confirmed the appointment of Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson as the new Kwara Pillar of Sports.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the association, Olayinka Owolewa, SWAN said that Prince Thompson was considered for the because of his enormous contributions towards the activities of the association over the years.

“We are delighted to announce Prince Thompson as our new Kwara Pillar of Sports.

“He has been very instrumental to the uplift of Sports in Kwara over the years and has never turned his back on the association whenever his services are needed.

“The former Chairman of Kwara United FC of Ilorin, twice promoted the team to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and has been instrumental to the development of Beach Soccer in the state.

“These are few of the reasons we feel he deserves such honour” the statement said.

The statement reminded that Prince Thompson was instrumental to the staging of the association’s last edition of the SWAN Media Games.

Meanwhile, SWAN is planning an Award Night, as well as the investiture for the new Pillar of Sports in December.

The Award Night and Investiture is part of the week-long of activities for the SWAN Week, which will hold in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital in the first week of December.

A Special Committee headed by the Chief Executive Officer of PhreeStyle Sports, Shogo Shodunnke has identified seven categories of recognitions for individuals and bodies that are contributing to the development of humanity through sports in the state.

About 15 philanthropists and stakeholders, 11 associations and bodies, 12 classes of recognition for Kwara athletes, coaches and Organising Secretaries and Special Recognition for six prominent personalities will be given awards on the last day of the SWAN Week.

Others are awards for journalists, both in print and electronic media, Royal Award for royal fathers that are supporting the system, as well as the Platinum Award for His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for changing the narratives in youth and sports development.
