The Chairman, Kwara State Tennis Association, Tope Daramola has congratulated the state’s tennis team to the 20th National Sports Festival, Edo 2020.
The team made up of three male; Adebayo Irelewuyi, Tosho Yusuf and Adewunmi Amao and four female; Adunoye Rachael, Olamide Bose, Are Bunmi and Yahaya Aishat (Wheelchair), ended up winning one bronze medal in the men’s doubles courtesy the pair of Adebayo/Tosin, while the pair of Adunoye/Olamide won silver in the female doubles.
Going by the records, the state’s tennis team have not won a National Sports Festival medal before now.
The last time the team presented players for the festival was the last edition held in 2018, in Abuja.
Daramola in his statement, said that the association is impressed with the rapid improvement at this year’s festival, compared to the last time out and encouraged to do more in terms of exposing the players to more national and international meets in order to make them better players.
A welcome reception is being planned for the team by the association, haven justified the association’s previous financial and moral support on the players.
Daramola used the opportunity to thank the entire team under the leadership of the state’s tennis coach, Layi Ifarinde for a job well done, and the entire members of the state’s tennis association for believing in the ability of the players.
