*SWAN to launch Online Radio Station
The Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye has commended the Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for its unwavering commitment to knowledge-sharing and the professional development of sports journalists.
Titiloye gave the commendation during a digital media seminar and refresher session organised by Kwara SWAN for its members at the Taiwo Awoniyi Media Centre, George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
He described the association as a pacesetter in the area of capacity building, stressing that its continuous seminars, workshops, and interactive programmes have greatly enhanced the growth of sports journalism in the state.
According to him, by equipping members with modern skills and ethical values, Kwara SWAN has not only elevated the quality of sports reporting but also strengthened the bond between the media and sports stakeholders.
“Kwara SWAN has set a remarkable standard. Their dedication to training, mentorship, and professional development is second to none. Other state chapters should emulate what is happening here in Kwara so that sports journalism across the nation can improve,” Titiloye stated.
The football administrator further assured that Kwara United remains open to partnerships with the association in areas that would advance sports in the state, particularly football.
Kwara United will continue to work hand in hand with Kwara SWAN because we share the same goal of promoting sports and projecting the talents of our young athletes.
“This collaboration will be beneficial to both the club and the association, and ultimately to Nigerian sports as a whole,” he added.
He also appealed to other stakeholders in the sports sector including clubs, administrators, and corporate organisations to support SWAN’s efforts in promoting excellence in sports reportage, noting that a vibrant media culture is key to sustainable sports development.
In recent years, Kwara SWAN has rolled out several initiatives aimed at raising standards in sports journalism, including workshops for young reporters, annual sports awards, and regular interactive sessions with administrators and athletes.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is set to launch its own Online Radio Station in partnership with 132 Media, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tijani Ajara.
The initiative, driven by former National Executive member of SWAN and Sports Administrator, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, (The Nwachigoziri 1) is designed to expand the frontiers of sports journalism in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Ajara said 132 Media is committed to deploying its technical expertise and broadcasting platform into the project.
He described the partnership as a landmark for the media industry in Kwara, adding that it will give sports journalism a new and dynamic voice.
“Sports play a vital role in uniting people, and with this Online Radio, we are creating a modern channel for young journalists to express themselves while also giving sports fans quality content,” he said.
On his part, Chief Chukwuemeka explained that the project aligns with SWAN’s vision of keeping members at the cutting edge of global media practice.
This is a dream that has been nurtured for years. With the Kwara SWAN Online Radio, we will not only give athletes the exposure they deserve but also strengthen grassroots sports development.
It is also an opportunity for our members to embrace digital broadcasting and acquire new skills that are relevant in today’s media world,” he stated.
The proposed station, set to be unveiled soon, will feature live commentaries, exclusive interviews, expert analysis, sports documentaries, and talk shows highlighting the achievements of athletes and stakeholders.
Kwara SWAN Chairman, Ismail Ayodeji, commended the collaborative spirit behind the initiative, describing it as another bold step by the association to remain innovative and relevant in the evolving media landscape.
He urged members to rally behind the project, assuring that the station would not only promote sports in Kwara but also set a benchmark for other SWAN chapters nationwide.
With preparations already at an advanced stage, stakeholders are optimistic that the Kwara SWAN Online Radio will go live soon, ushering in a new dawn for sports broadcasting in the state.
