Kwara State Football Association has called for caution in the way issues in and around the state’s darling team, Kwara United Football Club is being handled, and as.well, sues for removal or reduction of bottlenecks in getting finances avaliable to the club tobtackle challenges.
The Chairman of the FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa, popularly known as Thuraya was reacting to the twin problem of debts owed the former players and Technical Adviser of the team, Coach John Sam Obuh, and the requirements concerning the venue of the team’s home games.
In a letter from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to the FA, dated October 10, 2024, and titled: “Re: Matches at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin”, the League Organizing body asked for certain fundamental requirements to be put in place at the Stadium.
The letter, signed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NPFL stated: “You are requested to put into working condition things like efficient floodlight, lights at the stands, scoreboard, good gate system, lush green and well cut grasses, for the team to play its remaining home matches at home”.
On the other hand, was also the issue of debt to former players and officials at the Players Status and Arbitration Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
In a letter forwarded to the club on November 4, 2024, with the title: “Re: Request for explanation on the fielding of ineligible players, the Committee asked for explanation on why new players were used, against the order to the club not to do so.
“The Players Status and Arbitration Committee (PSAC) wrote to formerly request for an explanation regarding the fielding of ineligible players in Matchday 10 fixture against Akwa United, despite outstanding debts and unresolved financial obligations”.
The letter, signed by Tuale Charles Ajuyah, the Secretary of PSAC listed 11 new players fielded by Kwara United in the said match.
In a phone call reaction by the Chairman of Kwara FA, he frowned at the slow response to the issues by the club, while equally calling for the removal of whatever obstacle hindering the smooth operation of the club.
“These are issues that require urgent response and action, and for letters by the club to be delayed and not processed as at when due will only embarrass the state when it mattered most.
“On our part as the FA, we have done our best to bring this to the notice of the club and other stakeholders, and that is what we can do within the limit of our obligations. Urgent actions needs to be taken as at when due.
He added that taking Kwara United home matches away from home will not only affect the team, but also the stakeholders, fans and supporters, as well as the FA too, if the problems are not urgently tackler.
The FA, according to Thuraya, has taken enough undertaking to ensure things are put in place at the right time, to save embarrassment.
