Senator Sulaiman Sadiq Umar has rewarded Kwara United Football Club with N2million, after they defeated Rivers United 3-1 in Matchday 37 on Sunday May 11, 2025, to retain their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) status.

Kwara United defeated Rivers United 3-1 to climb to the 13th position with 50 points and plus three goals surplus, enough to keep them in the elite league for next season.

Senator Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District motivated the team with a donation of N2million to complement the contributions of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on sports development, and for Kwara United, most especially.

The General Manager of the Club, Bashir Badawiy confirmed the receipt of the Senator’s largesse, even as he said that the team will remain focused, to justify the support of Kwara Governor, Mallam AbdulRazaq, and that of other well wishers and stakeholders.

Senator Umar urged the team to deploy and put into use, all the lessons learnt in the outgoing NPFL season as they prepare for the new season which begins in few months, charging them to aspire to win the league title for the state.

Kwara United will end the NPFL season with the last match against Katsina United at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium, Katsina next week, and irrespective of the outcome, Kwara United is already safe.

While also urging the team to intensify efforts ahead of their President Federation Cup semi-final match against Enugu Rangers in Lagos on May 21, 2025, Senator Umar pledged to be present at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, to personally give his support to the team.

Kwara United advanced to the semi-finals of the President Federation Cup for the first time in the club’s history after defeating Akwa United FC 5–3 on penalties, following a 2–2 draw in a thrilling quarter-final encounter held in Enugu.

The Senator reiterated his call on the players and coaches to seize the opportunity to etch their names in the annals of Kwara State sports history by becoming the team that brings home the Federation Cup.
