The Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin will witess yet another soccer cracker as last year’s semi-finalist in the famous Pre-Season competition, Ogunjobi Gold Cup tournament, Kwara United takes on FC Ebedei in the opening match of the 8th edition on Thursday October 29, 2020.
Fixtures released by organisers re ealed that defending champions Niger Tornadoes, two-time winners, Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars and CAF Champions League representatives, Enyimba FC are the top elite teams in the competition, while Remo Stars, ABS FC of Ilorin and debutants Sokoto United, Ekiti United complete the 10 teams taking part in the nation’s prestigious Pre-season tourney.
There are two groups, A and B, made up of five (5) teams each, while Group B is tagged ‘group of death’.
Group A has Enyimba, Kwara United, FC Ebedei, Sokoto United and Ekiti United.
Coach Bala, whose Tornadoes are defending champions will be having his hands full against Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Remo Stars and ABS FC in the other group.
Ogunjobi Gold Cup, been the first Pre-season tourney to host a game under floodlight in the last edition in Ilorin, is set to raise the bar by surpassing that feat.
With a total of 23 matches to be played in the 10-day event, five (5) have been fixed as night matches.
In line with the safety protocols spelt out by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Kwara State Health Ministry for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all teams will adhere to it.
Since no fan will be allowed entry into the stadium, all players and officials of teams taking part in the tourney will have temperature checks before and after matches.
Fans of the domestic league won’t miss the action as all matches in the Ogunjobi Gold Cup will be live-streamed from the Kwara State Stadium Complex.
