*Kumbi commends NPFL Board on sponsorship drive
Kwara United will open their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with a home fixture against Kano Pillars at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
The pairing was confirmed during the NPFL fixture draw conducted today Friday August 7, 2026, at the league’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ibadan, with the Harmony Boys set to face the Sai Masu Gida in what promises to be an exciting Matchday One encounter.
Kwara United are currently participating in the Ahlan/Gusau Preseason Tournament in Katsina State, as part of preparations for the new league season, with Coach Ashifat Sulyman’s side using the competition to fine-tune tactics and assess players ahead of the campaign.
Supporters of the Harmony Boys will be hoping that the team starts the season on a positive note against one of the league’s traditional powerhouses.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye has said that the ability of the club to maintain its Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) status over consecutive seasons is being made possible through the unwavering support of the Kwara State Government, under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Kwara State Sports Commission.
Titiloye stated this today, Friday August 7, 2026, in Ibadan, while responding to questions from journalists during the NPFL Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Titiloye also commended the NPFL Board, led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, for securing sponsorship deals for the league, noting that the initiative would help cover referees’ indemnity and other logistics.
According to him, the sponsorship package is a major boost for the growth and professionalism of the league. It is a good development for our league to have secured sponsorship.
“It is fantastic, and this sponsorship deal will make our league better organised, especially in terms of players’ welfare and referees’ indemnity,” he said.
The Kwara United Chairman, who is also a member of the NPFL Board, explained that the ongoing reforms introduced by the league management are aimed at strengthening the domestic competition and improving players’ welfare.
He added that the measures would help reduce the increasing movement of Nigerian players to neighbouring African countries in search of better opportunities.
