The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, says the present administration under Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq would continue to prioritize youth development through sporting activities.
Mallam Mogaji stated this during the opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the Kwara YSFON Commissioner of Police 2026
He advised young footballers playing in the competition to utilise the competition as a platform to showcase their talents and position themselves for greater opportunities.
The Chairman encouraged the players to remain focused and committed, stressing that the competition could serve as a stepping stone to professional football and national recognition.
“You can be a superstar,” he told the young players, urging them to take the competition seriously and demonstrate their abilities.
The Sports Commission Chairman noted that the YSFON platform had produced several players who went on to represent Nigeria at different national team levels and participated in international competitions.
He commended the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, for providing young footballers with an avenue to discover and develop their talents through the annual competition.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kwara YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola, urged the players to remain dedicated and disciplined throughout the competition.
Mr Kiyesola encouraged the young footballers to emulate successful players who passed through the Kwara YSFON system, including Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi and Olusegun Olakunle, Dele Aiyenuga among other ambassadors of the organisation.
He also commended Kwara state Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo for sustaining the competition and providing opportunities for young talents across the state.
The YSFON Chairman also prayed to God to elevate the Commissioner of Police to greater heights and positions beyond his expectations.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday’s matches, August 18, 2026, Champion Rise FA defeated Classic FA 0–1 in the U-13 category, while Ogo-Osupa FA recorded a 7–0 victory over Future Talent FA.
Pepsi FA also defeated African Kids FA 3–2, while Future FA secured a 3–0 victory over Makamz FA.
In the U-17 boys’ category, Barca Kids FA played out a goalless draw with Busari FA, while Olabim FA defeated Future Talent FA 1–0.
In the opening ceremony match of the U-17 girls’ category, Model Girls defeated Champion Rise Girls 1–0.
The tournament provides a competitive platform for the discovery, development and promotion of young football talents in Kwara State.
