The 2020/21 season of the Nigeria National League (NNL) may commence in October, if words by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the league, Sajo Mohammed are anything to go by.
Featuring on Channels Sports programme today, Mohammed hinted that subject to the approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the second-tier league might get underway next month.
He assured of a more improved league, stressing that the league would be packaged and well organized in a way that it would be far better than what it was in the past.
The NNL CEO spoke specifically on the issue of officiating, assuring Nigerians of an improved standard of officiating.
“Officiating will improve, referees will go through refresher courses aimed at improving their performances to make them operate with a high level of professionalism”.
Mohammed identified sponsorship as the major factor militating against the improvement of the NNL, stressing that the new management was already working towards securing sponsorship for the league as a way of developing it.
He assured that the NNL has entered a phase which he described as a new chapter that will make the league attractive.
It will be recalled that the 2019/20 season was inconclusive as it was cancelled due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 outbreak.
