Ahead of the opening fixtures of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Kwara United FC is struggling to sustain the usage of its home venue, as the State Stadium Complex Main-Bowl has been listed as ‘To Be Announced’ (TBA).
According to the recently released fixtures of the NPFL, the Harmony Boys are expected to kick-off their league campaign against Niger Tornadoes of Minna on 7, September 2024, at home.
The venue for all Kwara United matches are currently listed as TBA, an acronym for ‘To Be Announced’, indicating that the facilities are considered unsuitable for top-tier league matches.
Similarly, other clubs such as Abia Warriors, Beyond Limits, El Kanemi Warriors are also facing similar venue uncertainties.
The Kwara State Stadium turf was among the stadia deemed unfit for the 2024/2025 league season during the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the league body.
Controversy has surrounded the Kwara stadium pitch after the Kwara State Football Association relinquished maintenance responsibilities due to strained relations with the Kwara State Sports Commission.
But the Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Kumbi Titiloye in his reactions, has reassured football stakeholders in the state regarding the uncertainty surrounding the club’s home venue, affirming that Kwara United will continue to play at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin.
Titiloye emphasized the club’s commitment to the Kwara State Stadium.
“I want to emphasize unequivocally that our home games will be held at the Kwara State Stadium. Our loyal supporters, fans, and football enthusiasts in Kwara should disregard any misinformation suggesting otherwise”, Kumbi stated.
He mentioned that the club is currently awaiting the NPFL inspection team following necessary maintenance work carried out on the infrastructure.
Kumbi also expressed optimism that the stadium will meet the NPFL standards.
“The government has undertaken renovations and necessary repairs to the facilities as mandated by the NPFL at the conclusion of the previous season, adhering to international standards”, Kumbi affirmed.
