The victorious Offa Volleyball Club have been charged to make all necessary arrangements to represent and win gold medal for the state at the National Sports Festival.
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, while receiving the victorious Offa Volleyball Club who won the Nigeria Volleyball Premier league back-to-back today at Commission noted that the victory recorded was more for Offa than the state.
Magaji recalled the days way back in 1977 when Kwara Volleyball team used to be a force to reckon with, adding that the first Nigerian Volleyball team Captain was with the Kwara Sports Council and from Offa, Mallam Bola Yusuf.
He called on the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Bako to work out a synergy between Offa Volleyball Club and the state team in order to form a formidable team for the state, adding that there is nothing wrong in asking a private team coach to assist the state team for the progress of the state.
He assured that their achievements will be relayed to the Governor as he acknowledged the perseverance of the team saying, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
In his remarks, the Director of Sports, Mallam Bako described the victorious team as good ambassadors of the state. He urged them not to relax on the oars and train harder, to achieve greater heights.
Also contributing, the Commission’s Secretary, Mr Haruna Tsado commended the team, even as he advised the players to remain focused.
A member of the Commission Board, Mallam Dele Abubakar (MON) urged the team to be steadfast in their efforts for more performance.
Earlier, the Coach of the team, Suleiman Ajeigbe appreciated the state government for the support and assistance to the team. He noted that the team have been recording victory over victory since the state government started assisting the team.
Two players of the team bagged personal awards. Favour Adeniye won the Best Setter award, while Ismail Tiamiyu, the Best Libero.
